Historical Society of Medicine Hat and District

Connecting and Honouring our Community’s History

We celebrate and preserve the stories, landmarks, and traditions that shape Medicine Hat and the surrounding region. Through research, exhibits, and community programs, we bring our shared past to life — fostering pride, connection, and appreciation for the people and places that built our community.

About The Historical Society

The Historical Society of Medicine Hat and District was formed on December 5, 1947, when a group of local citizens met in the home of Mayor Hector Lang to preserve our region’s early history. From collecting stories and artifacts to building the first pioneer cabin museum in 1951, we’ve grown into a vital community resource.
